We are currently seeking a Production Engineering – Manufacturing Support professional to provide hands-on shop floor support for manufacturing methods and processes across machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations. VDG (Van der Graaf) is a well-established industry leader in manufacturing drum motors for all type of belt conveyor applications. This role focuses on supporting day-to-day production activities, resolving manufacturing issues, and initiating improvements to current manufacturing methods and processes to improve product quality, schedule performance, and manufacturing efficiency while reducing overall manufacturing costs. The role supports the interpretation and implementation of engineering drawings and specifications and works closely with Production, and Engineering teams to ensure manufacturing processes are practical, repeatable, and aligned with operational requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Production Support:
- Provide day-to-day technical and process support on the shop floor for machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations.
- Support production teams in troubleshooting manufacturing, quality, tooling, and process-related issues.
- Work closely with Machine Shop Supervisor to ensure manufacturing methods are followed and optimized.
- Assist in minimizing downtime, scrap, and rework through timely issue resolution.
- Drawings, Specifications & Design Support:
- Review, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials to support manufacturing and assembly operations.
- Prepare, update, and revise manufacturing drawings and documentation, including layout drawings, assembly drawings, and detail drawings, as required to support production.
- Make design adjustments and drawing revisions based on customer specifications, approved engineering standards, and manufacturing requirements.
- Identify drawing- or design-related issues that impact manufacturability, quality, cost, or production efficiency and propose practical solutions.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering to review and implement design changes, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and internal standards.
- Support the implementation of approved drawing revisions and engineering changes within manufacturing documentation, routings, and work instructions.
- Assist with dimensional reviews, tolerance considerations, and clarification of design intent as it applies to shop floor execution.
- Manufacturing and Process Support:
- Develop, review, and maintain manufacturing methods, routings, and work instructions.
- Define process sequences, cycle times, tooling requirements, and inspection points.
- Support the implementation of engineering changes and ensure manufacturing documentation is updated accurately and on time.
- Support quality control, inspection planning, and process validation activities.
- Ensure manufacturing processes align with approved drawings, specifications, and operational requirements.
Key Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing or related environment.
- Familiarity with robotic controls and programming
- Experience supporting manufacturing or production operations in a mechanical or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation
- Working knowledge of basic measurement techniques and CAD software, preferably SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge in manufacturing process.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues involving assembly and CNC equipment, tooling, fixtures, and related production equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, shop-floor mindset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, conduct training and to present information in an advisory capacity.
- Excellent communication in both written and verbal in English.
- Knowledge of presses, machining, material handling, inspection/gauging, tool room and metal finishing equipment is considered an asset.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Light travel may be required.
