Welder/Fitter

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Welder/Fitter with expertise in working with stainless and mild steel fabrication to join our team. As a welder/fitter you will be responsible for fabricating, positioning, aligning and fitting structural metal components. You will be responsible for the set up and operation of welding equipment including MIG, TIG, Arc, and Oxygen-acetylene.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Welding:
    • Interpret detailed drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine job, material, and equipment requirements.
    • Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and team members to coordinate workflow.
    • Perform MIG, TIG, ARC and oxy-acetylene welding on stainless and mild steel components.
    • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools in accordance with blueprints and layout specifications.
    • Assemble parts and structures using welding and bolting.
    • Perform finishing work such as cleaning, polishing and filing.
  • Equipment Operation:
    • Set up and operate welding equipment including MIG, TIG, Arc, and Oxygen-acetylene.
    • Use of electric grinders and air grinders.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Perform quality inspections on welded joints and finished parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
    • Identify and troubleshoot welding equipment and fabrication issues to maintain productivity and quality.
    • Monitor and report on the condition of equipment and tools to ensure proper functioning and optimal production.
    • Report any deviations from specifications or tolerances.
  • Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all operational activities
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by performing basic housekeeping duties
    • Consistently practice safe work habits, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard recognition and implementation of precautionary measures.
  • Other:
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Welder/Fitter, preferably with stainless and mild steel
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, ARC, and Oxygen-acetylene welding techniques.
  • Welding certification and/or relevant vocational training is an asset.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of measurement tools and precision measurement techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in welding and fabrication to produce high-quality work with minimal errors.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members, understand instructions, and report issues or concerns.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to welding and metal fabrication.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
